Unfortunately, the District has had members who have made their final
departures. These members include:

Lyle Beets
Lyle passed away after a long illness
December 28, 2005. He retired from the District in July,
1987. |

Ken Kerr
Battalion Chief Ken Kerr passed away on April
17, 2006, having served the citizens of the District for
over 28 years. |

Don Koebel
On March 8, 1995, Firefighter Don Koebel lost
his life after being overcome by smoke at a house. Don, who
began his career with the District on December 12, 1985, was
buried with honors. |

Eric Rueff
Eric Rueff died in an airplane crash on March
21, 1998. He was a member of the District from November 1,
1990, until his death. He developed the hose-carrying strap
used to carry high-rise hose on the trucks. His love for
healthy debate and meticulous detail were his trademarks.
Eric was a Trench Rescue Training Officer at the time of his
death. |

Jim Smith
Jim Smith worked up through the ranks to
finish his career with the District as Interim Fire Chief in
December, 1994. He spent much of his retirement enjoying his
family and fishing with his son. He passed away in July,
2005. |

Don Wilcox
On July 22, 1988, Acting Leiutenant Don
Wilcox lost his life after being overcome by smoke at a
house fire that happened on the 18th of July. Don, a
twenty-three veteran of the District, was buried with
honors. |

Bob Wilcox,
Sr. Chief Wilcox served as
Assistant Chief with Fire District No. 2 and No. 3 from May
15, 1967, until Chief Lipps' retirement. He then became Fire
Chief of Fire District No. 2, serving until his retirement
in July, 1987. Chief Wilcox's death at the age of 68 was a
loss to the fire service. |

Hoser
"Lieutenant" Hoser, one of the most memorable members of the
District, passed away on April 26, 2002, at the age of 17. His image was
featured on the fire department ornament for 1996 by Hallmark. Hoser, the
District's number 1 mascot and fire safety teacher
beginning in July of 1985, was stationed at Station #1 at 6400 Martway in
Mission until his retirement in September, 1995. |
